Description

This book documents the evolution of the political events that took place in Sri Lanka from Pre-Independence in 1948 to the end of the conflict in May 2009.

It provides an insight into; attempts made by the Government of Sri Lanka to negotiate with the Tamil peoples to address their grievances, both real and imagined; the rise of the brutal Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE); LTTE preparation for armed conflict with the backing of the Indian government; resumption of hostilities, starting with guerilla attacks, conventional warfare and suicide attacks; and finally, the destruction of the Tiger leadership, and restoration of peace in Sri Lanka after the loss of many lives on both sides of the conflict, and post conflict issues. It further includes the reflections and reconciliation efforts involved.
