Description

Past Remembered

“Do little school kids show jealousy even at this small stage?” asked Amma in amazement, with her hand on her cheek after she listened to the details on Roshan’s Picture.

It was while Maalika was talking to Amma of the programme done for Rupawahini that this story suddenly sliped out from her mouth. Roshan did not like it at all.

Although the 3 children sat at the table their father had still not com. “Aiya, don’t you like food?” asked Manori very well knowing Roshan’s capacity for food.

“Lets eat after Thaththa comes” said Roshan and started watching the TV.

Father had gone to the town with Jamis and Saman. Roshan was not happy that Saman was taken.

Roshan liked Saman. He had spoken with Saman to visit the sea shore to see the moon. This he kept a secret from his father as well as his sisters.

“The stolen goods and the robbers would now be caught” Roshan thought. “Now Vinnie will show the picture to all students proudly saying that Roshan presented it ot him.”

Asitha tapped Roshans back and asked with a smile. “So, why should one go to the Police for this?” Roshan looked at Asitha and smiled.

The story spread through out the school in a short time. It reached the Art teacher, the Principal and all the School staff.

“So the problem has been solved before going to the Police. Roshan should be good to join the C.I.D. (of the Police) later.” Thus, spoke the teachers.

“Roshan should be given the post of Student Leader for Discipline” the Principal told the Master in charge of Discipline.

“Announce in the assembly tomorrow that on I have appointed Roshan for this post. If there is anyone against it let that person indicate it” the Principal informed the Master in charge of Discipline.

“This story would never have been solved if it did not happen this way.” The Art teacher said this to Valentine, Mahen and the rest of the students who had painted pictures. He said this in Roshan’s presence.

“But Sir, you should thank Vinnie for that” said Roshan to the Art Teacher. “It was Vinnie who came to me to ask for pardon. If not for him I too would not know this at all.”

“How did it reach your trouser pocket..” “It came from the skies…” Asitha laughed.

“I took it to apply to a cut on my leg and it remained in the pocket from that time” said Asitha.

“Birdie, you are lucky” said Roshan while applying the medicine on the wings and holding him to his face, kissed the bird. This was strange behavior to the bird and he started screeching.

“It must be hurting him Roshan….” Said Asith.

“But if he stays here we will have to bury him here it self” said Roashan holding the bird in his two hands.

The rest of the birds were fling about making cries. Some birds flew at Roshan as if to peck him.

“See their comredship Asitha….. they must be thinking that we are trobling him” Roshan said this and took him close asking “Is it not so, little birdie?”

“I feel like taking him to our boarding” Roshan said.

“No, we can not do that! Sir will scold us.” Said Asitha.

Suddenly the bird flew upwards from Roshan’s hands’ Although Roshan jumped up, he could not catch the bird.

“There he is flying…..” said Roshan. In a way he was happy.

“We have not seen these birds earlier, have we Roshan?” Asked Asitha.

Saman said “Yes, let’s do it. But I do not know if the piece of paper would tare off when we send the stick donw.”

“Let us use the hard cover of the biscuit pack and write on that.” Maalika said while sitting down on the cleared ground and taking the bag off her neck.

Saman was very pleased of the thinking power of these children. Though they cried a little there was no shortage to their thinking. Saman smiled alone. In the meantime Roshan pulled out a pen knife from his pocket and while seated cut a fork out from plant. He then used this fork to pull another vine towards him. He was certain that th vine was very strong. It won’t break easily. While he was pulling on the vine Roshan saw that the top of a tree was shaking slightly.

Which meant that if that one could hang on to the vine, the tree could climbed. He could faintly see that the tree top was very close to the Tower top.
