In 1973 he went to Thailand, Laos and Burma with the intention of becoming a monk, eventually doing to in India in 1976. He subsequently lived in Sri Lanka and Singapore before returning to his homeland in 2017. Bhante’s numerous books on Buddhist doctrine, history and culture have been translated in to over 30 languages and have won a wide and appreciative readership.
