Authored by Professor Rajiva Wijesinha, the book traces the decline and downfall of the United National Party ever since Ranil Wickremesinghe became its leader.

Following a lengthy analysis running to 216 pages, the author concludes that given Ranil’s personality “There is little hope that he will care anything for the party, and would prefer to continue to guide it until, like Gollum clutching his ring of power at the end of Tolkien’s famed trilogy, it falls with him into a smoking abyss”.
